Sant’Alessandro company, a family history
- Alessandro S.S. Company is dedicated to farm management, whose activity consists mainly in the cultivation of poplar trees. The partners of the S. Alessandro company are part of the families that own ICTA S.r.l., a poplar processing company and producer of related plywood.
The total area subject to certification consists of 257.47 hectares, covered by the “Plantation Management Plan” drawn up by S. Alessandro S.S. for the purposes of certification and by the “Plan of the Garzaia di S. Alessandro Natural Monument” approved by the Lombardy Region.
The poplar plantations are areas historically dedicated to agriculture; these areas have therefore not been affected by deforestation, levelling or earth moving operations, drainage, or clearing.

A traditional cultivation model
The cultivation model of the poplar cultivation areas is the traditional one of Italian lowland poplar cultivation. The poplar cutting rotation is about 10 years; it can vary by a year depending on the clone, the vegetative state of the plants, and the poplar market situation. Cutting is carried out flush across the entire plot being cut.
After the cut, before planting new poplar cuttings, the soil is prepared by trench and deep ploughing; planting is carried out with cloned poplar cuttings of certified origin.
In addition, phytosanitary treatments are only carried out when necessary without preventive interventions and limited to the affected areas.
